Garden of Memories

Mothers plant the seeds of love that bloom forever.”

Anonymous

My garden in July bursts forth with Shasta Daisies and Gladioli. Daisies were my Mom’s favorite flower so this garden has sweet memories and reminds me of her gentle touch and her own beautiful garden on the hill at my childhood home.

If you can frost a cake, you can learn to use a palette knife!

When I am painting outdoors, my favorite tool is my palette knife. It helps me to work quickly by simplifying shapes and not getting to fussy with tiny details which I can be tempted to do with brushes. I love the interesting marks and thick impasto that only a painting knife can give a painting. And an added bonus is clean-up is a snap with just wiping the knife off with a paper towel!

Auction to Support Ukraine

Thank you to those of you who bid in this online auction to support displaced families in Ukraine!

Prayers for Ukraine
● Sold (10 x 8 inches, oil on panel)

I auctioned my original framed Sunflower painting, Prayers for Ukraine, oil, 8 x 10 inches, on Facebook and Instagram on 3/19 to 3/20. 100% of the proceeds are going to Catholic Relief Service to support Ukraine and displaced families. (How it worked: Starting bid: $350, included frame and shipping. Bidding was placed in the comments section of the post for the auction on Instagram, bidding was with $25 increments.) I’ve been so inspired seeing many other artists offering their talents to support the people of Ukraine! Thank you so much for your participation!

This was my Mom’s favorite prayer and it is appropriate during this time of unrest.

Peace Prayer of Saint Francis

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace:
where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
where there is sadness, joy.

O divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek
to be consoled as to console,
to be understood as to understand,
to be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive,
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
Amen.

Copper Cup and Pansies

8 x 10 oil painting, Copper Cup with Pansies by Jill Brabant

“Pansies are for gardeners that are impatient for Spring!

Anonymous

Pansies and copper are a beautiful combination together. It was fun to play with a complementary color scheme and the reflections and bits of color mirrored in the copper cup inspired me.

Plenty of Pansies

Flowers can bring joy even in the winter season.

Pansies have the ability to tolerate winter temperatures; in fact, these plants can freeze and thaw with little damage. These beautiful and colorful flowers have five petals and are heart-shaped with an overlapping pattern. I love this painting, as it has beautiful texture and a riot of color from this arrangement of pansies.

Meadowlark Memories

“I can smell autumn dancing in the breeze. The sweet chill of pumpkin, and crisp sunburnt leaves.”

—Ann Drake

I love the crisp air of fall, the colors of the leaves and beauty that can only be found in Autumn. It is bittersweet, as it means that my garden is fading and going to sleep until the renewal of Spring. Each of the seasons have their own unique beauty. This slightly foggy, autumn morning inspired me to paint the pond at Meadowlark Gardens. The beauty and peaceful stillness of this fall day is what I wanted to convey with this impressionistic landscape.
